Kozo K-27 Hand Pump

Today was spent machining the flat
brass parts for the hand pump that will mount in the tender. The large
piece is the base plate and the smaller piece above will be screwed to
it and then soldered to form a T shape. The small piece to the right
will be a pivot point on the top of the pump body for the handle and
lever arm. January 15, 2023.

The round stock for the pump body have
been cut to size but I'm waiting on a couple of reamers before all of
the chambers are machined. The small piece at the top will hold the
check ball along with a spring in the top portion of the vertical
column. January 16, 2023.

The horizontal cylinder of the hand
pump has been machined and is ready to have all of the attachments
silver soldered. The visible slot will accept the vertical portion of
the mount at the bottom and there is another slot cut for the pivot
point tab on the top. The vertical cylinder of the pump will go into
the 3/4" bore at the left and the O-ring will slide into the bore to
seal the pump plunger. January 22, 2023.

The main components of the hand pump
body have been machined and soldered together. The base plate still
needs to be soldered to the fin at the bottom. Then it will be on to
additional fitting and the pump handle. March 26, 2023.

The base has been soldered to the assembly providing a solid mounting platform. March 31, 2023.

A bushing has been machined and the
stainless steel plunger has been cut to the correct length. Next will
be a slot in the plunger for the handle along with the hole for the
pin. April 1, 2023.

The 5/8" pump plunger has been slotted and drilled to provide the attachment of the lever. April 2, 2023.

The suction inlet has been machined
and a floating 1/4" check ball seated above it. A brass screen will be
soldered to the bottom of the inlet to keep any large particles out of
the system. April 2, 2023.

The hand pump lever has been cut from stainless steel and a pin added to attach it to the plunger. April 8, 2023.

The brass link has been machined and
set into place between the pump body and the lever. Two stainless steel
pins will need to be cut to attach it. April 9, 2023.

All of the pins have been completed and set into place with E-clips. April 30, 2023.

This is the rod for the pump handle
made from 5/8" stainless steel. A knob will be threaded onto on end and
a hollow rod will be soldered to the other end to connect with the
lever on the pump. This will allow the handle to be removed from the
pump body when not in use. April 30, 2023.

The angled sleeve adapter has been soldered onto the end allowing the handle to be slipped on to the pump lever. May 13, 2023.

The completed hand pump assembly. May 13, 2023.
